Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC reduces losses of electric power

Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids, branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC summarized the work on reducing losses in 2009. After summarizing the results of the events focusing on decreasing energy losses in 0.4-10 kV grids, the management of the branch decided to commend the best electric system districts: Karsunsky, Baryshsky, Terengulsky and Pavlovsky. Positive dynamics in most ESDs of branch has been observed over a period of several years. During the last year alone productive supply of electric power to individual consumers in these ESDs increased almost by 5 million kW/h. Throughout the branch in 2009 decrease in the volume of electric power losses amounted to 28 million kW/h year on year. Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids Branch introduced a long-term program aimed at decreasing losses of electric power, and provided bonuses to employees for taking part in program events. Improvement of indicators in 2009 was achieved within the framework of investment and repair programs. Technical and management events, such as replacement of wires in overloaded lines, replacement of power transformers, optimization of electric grids modes, were directed at improving reliability of the branch’s power equipment and reducing losses of electric power. Introducing automated electricity consumption measuring systems (ECMSs) and installing commercial energy fiscal metering units helped improve control over the amount of energy provided to consumers and decrease losses by 4.9 million kW/h.
