Alexander Nemtinov had previously held a position of a senior manager in the Department of Strategic Planning and was responsible for overseeing the balanced score card project at Severstal. BSC uses both financial and non-financial indicators for strategic and operational management, which allow evaluating whether and to what degree the company has been able to reach its strategic objectives.
The new appointment will allow changing some of the technical department's functions in the near future and streamlining the quality of the department's work on the whole.
"Today Severstal is positioned to produce high value added products. It introduces more sophisticated products, raises quality requirements. It is necessary to produce quality substrate for Severgal and the substrate for the polymeric coatings shop, master new grades of skelp steel and improve its consumer characteristics. On top of that we are faced with a challenge to decrease expenditures in various parts of the technology chain and increase productivity of many plants. In 2005, Severstal is expected to develop a large number of investment projects. Because of that, it's required to revise and make improvements in implementation of the technical strategy and future development policy," commented Alexander Nemtinov.
He said that his primary goal is to develop and design a plan of developing the technical department, which will incorporate the above-mentioned points. He stressed improving product quality, decreasing expenditures, implementing the planned out investment program.
