Pavel Livinskiy took part in the discussion of the post-COVID-19 future of the energy industry during the World Energy Council online conference

Pavel Livinskiy, CEO of Rosseti, took part in the conference ‘COVID-19: accelerating a better energy future for all’. The discussion focused on issues of digital transformation, shift of power balance, development of low-carbon energy industry, and international cooperation. Alexander Novak, the Minister of Energy of Russia, and Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General & CEO of the World Energy Council, participated as well.

Pavel Livinskiy commented on the COVID-19 situation, noting that it coincided with the current global trends in the industry and enhanced the dynamics of innovative solutions implementation.

‘The whole COVID-19 situation confirmed once again that we have no alternative but speed up the implementation of new technologies in every field of economics – from retail to power engineering. Russian energy complex performed exceptional resistance to challenges set by pandemic thanks to the fact that digital transformation became the absolute priority of the Rosseti Group of Companies in recent years,’ Pavel Livinskiy said.

The company perceives digital transformation as a transformation of the logic of technological and business processes dictated not only by new technologies but also by changes in consumer behaviour. The main objective of the transformation process is to make the energy system more flexible and adaptable while keeping its service stable and accessible. It is essential to consider the integration of future technological solutions. Besides, the system should be responsive to signals, regulated and transparent for both the consumer and producer, including microgeneration and renewable energy.

At the World Energy Council online conference, the results of special research were provided; experts from over 100 countries took part in it. More than two-thirds of the respondents claimed that regardless of the crisis, digital transformation remains the most important objective for the energy companies. The attention concentrates on business analytics, remote communication and new services.

‘COVID-19: accelerating a better energy future for all’ conference is the first online meeting in the framework of 25th anniversary of the World Energy Congress which will take place in Saint Petersburg in 2022. Representatives of E.ON and RBC Capital Markets took part in the discussion, too. Rosseti and The Global Energy association sponsored the event.
