Surgutneftegas: social policy in action

Surgutneftegas does not only strive to remain a profitable and financially sound company, it also does its best to provide social protection to its employees and their families, support disadvantaged social groups and take part in the national and regional social projects.

Every year the Company carries out 15 various social programs.

As part of the Health Program 2005, 31,400 people, including 5,780 children, could get treatment and rest paid by the Company, which spent to this end almost RUR 780 mn. As many as 970 retirees and war veterans and 230 orphans from the city of  Surgut and Surgutsky District received free treatment. In 2005, the Company spent over RUR 701 mn to finance its three health resorts on the Black Sea coast in Krasnodarsky Krai and one health resort in Surgut.

The Company’s costs for its employees’ medical treatment covered by voluntary health insurance totaled RUR 64 mn.

The Sport for Everybody and Children programs received RUR 308 mn to finance sporting and recreational activities and sponsor sports clubs for children and teenagers.

The housing construction in the Company is gaining momentum: in 2005, the Company commissioned 83,400 square meters of housing, which translates into 1,290 families, including 56 families of graduate recruits, getting new homes. More than 45% of all housing (674 apartments) was build on a shared basis.

Social benefits amounted to over RUR 730 mn.

The Patronage and Charity programs received RUR 164.3 mn, which were used to support large families, disabled people, orphanages, museums, theaters, historical and cultural monuments.

Moreover, as part of the Culture Program, the Company did a lot of work to repair and construct administration and on-site facilities, build 2 new dormitories at its fields, as well as 9 ermanent and 3 mobile canteens.

In line with the Personnel Program, 29,662 employees completed their studies, refresher and training courses, which cost RUR 121 mn compared to RUR 106 mn in 2004.

In 2005, the Company paid for tuition of 2,276 university and college students and externship of 2,725 students and hired 385 graduates.

In 2005, the average number of the Company’s employees was 82,340.
