The Gazprom Headquarters has hosted a working meeting between Mr. Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and His Excellency Mr. Guy Verhofstadt, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium.
The parties addressed the prospects for further cooperation between Russia and Belgium in the oil and gas sector and pondered, inter alia, on Russian natural gas supply to Belgium and transit to third countries.
The parties also studied possibilities to jointly participate in an UGS facility construction project in Poederlee.
The parties confirmed their interest in promoting the long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation between Gazprom and Belgian energy companies.

Belgium has no proven reserves of natural gas and, hence, there is no domestic gas production in progress.
All natural gas volumes consumed by Belgium (16.4 bcm) are supplied through imports.
In 2006 Gazprom provided Belgium with some 300 MMcm of natural gas.
The Belgian gas transmission company Fluxys owns a manifold network for transnational gas flows in Western Europe as well as transits and stores natural gas and LNG. The Government of Belgium holds a “golden share” in the company.
