RAO UES power plants generate 63.1 billion kWh of electricity in February 2007

Moscow, 6 March 2007. According to the latest updates, RAO UES power plants generated 63.1 billion kWh of electricity in February 2007, which is nearly the same level as in February 2006 (63.5 billion kWh). Last month, the energy consumption across Russia grew 0.5% on the same period the year before, when the ambient temperatures were lower than the norm.

Due to the favourable hydrological situation in the reservoirs of the Volga-Kama chain of HPPs, part of the load was shifted from TPPs to HPPs. As a result, the output of HPPs of RAO "UES of Russia" grew 26.3% in February while the output of TPPs fell 4.5%.

In February 2007, the average outdoor temperature was generally within the norm. However, some of Russia's regions saw a dramatic increase in electricity consumption by by increased generation by RAO UES plants. For instance, electricity generation in the Tyumen Energy System and in the Sverdlovsk Energy System grew 4.9 percent and 4.6 percent, respectively.

During the first two months of 2007, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 129.8 billion kWh of electricity. For comparison, they generated 134.4 billion kWh of electricity during the same period last year. Such reduction compared to January-February 2006 was due to fact that, during that period, the ambient temperatures in most parts of Russia were lower than the norm and consumption of electricity and heat increased.
