Chuvashenergo Branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC summarizes 2009 results of preventive measures against stealing equipment from energy units

Over the last year the employees of Safety and Security Department of Chuvashenergo Branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC recorded 9 instances of theft of various types of assets from the enterprise. Each event was duly documented with district law enforcement agencies. In cooperation with law enforcement authorities six cases were successfully solved. Chuvashenergo Branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC incurred RUR214.9 thousand of losses (including repair expenses). Most theft episodes occurred in Alikovsky District, with 3 cases last year. The equipment was stolen, among others, by residents of Yadrinsky, Morgaushsky, Marposadsky and Batyrevsky districts of Chuvashia. Company staff pay much attention to preventing theft of various types of assets and incurring any material damages to the branch. In particular, working meetings are held monthly with heads of municipal entities, and discussions with local population are organized regularly. Law enforcement bodies are provided overall general assistance in investigation of all criminal incidents. In each separate case of theft employees of the Safety and Security Department travel to the crime scene and work with the police to establish the suspects. Cooperation between the Company, law enforcement bodies and municipalities of the Republic has lead to a decrease in the number of incidents of energy equipment theft. In 2005 and 2006 Chuvashenergo recorded over 80 incidents of theft, and in 2007 there were only as few as 18 cases. In 2008 and 2009 there occurred only 9 incidents of theft a year. More and more cases are being successfully investigated. For example in 2007 this indicator stood at 11.1%. In 2009 some 66% of cases of theft were successfully investigated. Decreasing the incidence of equipment theft from the facilities of Chuvashenergo Branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC remains one of the most important problems related to providing reliable supply of electric energy to consumers in Chuvashia. Since the beginning of this year each of 21 electric system districts (ESDs) introduced a hotline service where witnesses can report cases of theft of electric equipment or electric power. Power sector professionals are confident that close cooperation with ordinary citizens will lead to decrease in the number of committed crimes, and help improve stable supplies of electricity to consumers.
