MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

May 18, 2004

Pupils were offered to write on electric safety

AO MOSENERGO summed up the results of another contest of school essays on the power industry. The number of participants in this contest reached 250 Moscow pupils from middle and high school.

The works were collected in March 2004. In preparation for the contest, AO MOSENERGO arranged the demonstration of a training film and conducted lectures. The teachers selected and passed to the jury more than 100 essays. AO MOSENERGO awarded prizes to 12 pupils.

The pupils were asked to write essays on the subject: “Electricity—Good or Evil?” This was not a random topic. This year, AO MOSENERGO focuses on improving electric safety awareness among pupils. Regretfully, even high school students do not know how to handle electric appliances at home or elsewhere. As a result, the number of electricity-related accidents among children remains high.

The contest is part of AO MOSENERGO’s educational effort in the Moscow region schools. In addition to essay contests, AO MOSENERGO regularly holds drawing competitions and issues educational materials for children. Throughout the year, AO MOSENERGO holds open lessons at which it teaches children how to safely handle electricity and educates them about the operation of power stations and electric grids. The Company also arranged more than 120 trips for pupils to tour power facilities including Zagorsk GAES, TEZ-22, Dmitrov Grids, Shatura GRES-5 and other facilities. More than 3,000 pupils have taken part in these trips.
