Moscow, Russian Federation — January 12, 2005 — Mobile TeleSystems OJSC (“MTS” — NYSE: MBT), the largest mobile phone operator in Russia and the CIS, announces that it has updated the number of subscribers in Moscow and the Moscow region thus altering the total number of subscribers in Russia and the total consolidated figure. The change is caused by the fact that some subscribers were not included in the calculation due to their migration to the new billing system in the last day of 2004. The updated table is included below.
During 2004 MTS’ subscriber base increased by 17.46 million subscribers. In the month of December 2004 the Company added 4.68 million customers on a net basis.
