The first charging stations for electric vehicles started to operate in Samara

Charging stations for electric vehicles were offered for consumers in Samara. The first electric charging stations were installed by specialists of Samara Distribution Grids, a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group of Companies).

This pilot project was implemented by power sector specialists in Samara as part of the All-Russia program for the development of charging infrastructure facilities for electric vehicle fleet of Rosseti, PJSC. The Samara region became the first site in the Volga region and one of ten sites in Russia where a network of charging stations is being deployed as part of this program. A total of 5 charging stations for electric vehicles operate in the capital city of the region. Power sector specialists plan to deploy three more stations in the coming two years.

Charging stations for electric vehicles include vandal-proof wall-mounted panels with four charging electric outlets with color-coded indication of connection and charging processes. This stations are duly projected and provide the capability to monitor the charging process; vehicles are connected via a standard onboard cable. Charging stations are suitable for all existing electric vehicles. Electric outlets are compliant with TYPE 2 format (2 pcs) and Schuko format (2 pcs). Charging stations are of Mode 3 type, i.e. charging with AC high voltage.

Charging stations are installed at transformer substations of Samara Distribution Grids branch located in new residential blocks, near Renaissance Hotel and the Business Center building. These locations were selected in such a way as to accommodate heavy traffic and provide maximum accessibility and ease of use by residents and city visitors. These stations are offered for use free of charge.

To get access to a charging station, one need to have a special RFID card. These cards are available free of charge at any time at Samara Production Department of the branch. To become a card holder, one need to submit the driving license and documents for an electric vehicle. Charging time is up to 4 hours, depending on technical specifications of an electric vehicle and the type of cable used.

"Promotion of electric cars is one of priority issues nowadays. This issue is raised at all levels, including at the level of the RF Government. We recognize that electric cars will change the auto landscape in the near future, and yet today we are committed to meet the needs of electric car users. This is a very promising area. In addition, development of electric cars will offer significant environmental benefits, especially in urban areas. At the moment, this is a pilot project in our region and in the Volga region in general. However, we are sure that owners of electric cars will be able to see the true value of new charging stations already now," commented Konstantin Sanaev, Deputy Director General of IDGC of Volga, PJSC and Director of Samara Distribution Grids.
