Government of the Komi Republic and OJSC North West Telecom signed the supplement to the Cooperation Agreement for 2008

On 11 March 2008 in Syktyvkar there was a meeting of V.A. Torlopov, leader of the Komi Republic, with V.A. Akulich, General Director of OJSC North West Telecom. They signed the Supplement to the current Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the Komi Republic and OJSC North West Telecom on the prospective development of telecommunications in the region in 2008.

In accordance with the Supplement to the Agreement, OJSC North West Telecom undertook to provide investments of at least 545 million roubles into development and reconstruction of telecommunication networks of the Komi Republic. In 2008 the Company will continue construction of fibre optic telecommunication lines (FOTL), including the Aikino - Mikun - Usogorsk and Irael - Izhma - Ust-Tsilma sectors; it will begin construction of fibre optic telecommunication lines on the Ukhta -Vuktyl, Ukhta - Troitsko-Pechorsk, Inta - Vorkuta routes. The Company's telephone capacity in the Republic will be increased in 2008 by at least 8,000 lines. The multiservice network is projected to grow by at least 24,000 xDSL ports.

In 2008 OJSC North West Telecom will continue implementing the universal telecommunication services in the Komi Republic. In December 2007 the Company was declared winner of the competition to provide universal telecommunication services via universal service payphones in the North-West Federal District, which includes the Komi Republic. According to the conditions of the competition, 141 universal payphones will be installed in 141 localities of the Komi Republic.

The leader of the Komi Republic expressed his gratitude to the administration of OJSC North West Telecom and its Komi Branch for their excellent work in 2007. He noted that "uninterrupted telecommunication of high-quality is a foundation of the future economic development of the Republic. With every passing year the infocommunicational infrastructure of the Republic becomes ever more perfect, while the range and quality of services keep increasing. The Supplement to the Cooperation Agreement for 2008 confirms the commitment of the Komi Government to continue its cooperation with OJSC North West Telecom ."

The current Cooperation Agreement between OJSC North West Telecom and the Komi Government was signed in October 2004 ( see the press release of OJSC NWT of 06.11.2004 ). The subject of the agreement was establishment of an effective cooperation between the Government of the Komi Republic and OJSC North West Telecom in the area of the development of telecommunications in the region. In April 2006 the parties signed the Supplement to the Cooperation Agreement which set out the prospective development of telecommunications in the Komi Republic in 2006; in March 2007 another Supplement to the Agreement set out the plans for 2007.

 

In 2007, the level of investment by OJSC North West Telecom into the development and reconstruction of telecommunication networks and facilities in the Komi Republic exceeded 860 million roubles. Over 3,500 new lines were put into operation. The Company constructed digital telecommunication lines between, for example, Syktyvkar - Usogorsk, Syktyvkar - Kortkeros - Ust-Kulom, Aikino - Zheshart - Yarensk, Ukhta - Izhma. The multiservice network of OJSC North West Telecom in the Komi Republic was extended by over 20,000 xDSL ports (five times more than in 2006).
