Alexey Miller and Ajai Malhotra discuss LNG supplies to India

The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Ajai Malhotra, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation.

The parties discussed the main areas of the Russian-Indian cooperation in the energy sector placing an emphasis on further LNG supplies to India.

“In 2020 natural gas consumption in India will be 1.7 times more than today. Indian market is very promising for us and we take this into consideration while planning to construct export capacities under the Eastern Gas Program,” said Alexey Miller.

Background

India with its proven natural gas reserves amounting to 1.5 trillion cubic meters occupies the fifth place in Asia (after Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia and China). 70 per cent of these reserves are located in offshore fields of the Bombay High Basin and the Gujarat state.

India's Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry controls and regulates oil and natural gas production, gas and refined products processing and distribution, oil and refined products export and import.

In 2009 and 2011 Gazprom Group exported 10 shipments of LNG with a total volume of 0.65 million tons to India.
