Gazprom to provide feasibility study of Poland-situate UGS facilities

Today, Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman, signed an Order to perform a feasibility study for the opportunity of using the existing Poland-situate underground gas storage (UGS) facilities with the view of providing secure operation of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

The Paper was produced in accordance with the agreements previously achieved with the Polish side to devise mechanisms aimed at enhancing the security of Russian gas deliveries to Poland and other European countries.

The Order envisages preparation (until 1 June 2004) of the feasibility study of the Project on using the Polish underground gas storage complex including the Mogilno and Wierzchowice UGS facilities and an interconnecting gas pipeline.

Under the Order, the feasibility study for Gazprom’s participation in this Project will be provided, as well.

Gazprom, NIIGazeconomika, Gazexport and VNIIGAZ’s experts entered the working group established to monitor the execution of the feasibility study.

Stanislav Tsygankov, Head of Gazprom’s Foreign Relations Department, was named as head of the working group.

Reference:

On 10 March, Warsaw hosted a working meeting between Alexander Medvedev, Gazprom’s Management Committee Member and Gazexport’s Director General and Marek Kossowski, CEO of the Polish State Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG).

In particular, the parties agreed to set up working groups responsible for implementing projects on expanding UGS capacities in eastern Poland, ensuring gas deliveries in emergencies, optimizing gas supplies through the existing distribution stations and studying the Polish and other European gas markets with the view of building new gas transmission facilities.
