2003 performance statement (RAS)

As of 2003 the unconsolidated revenues of Uralsvyazinform totaled USD 635,4 mln (+34,9% as compared to 2002), revenues from telecommunication services reached USD 568,3 mln (+32,3%).

The structure of revenues from telecommunication services in 2003 is as follows:

  • DLD and ILD services – 46,1% (46,7% in 2002);
  • Local services – 38,6% (36,6%)? including
    • Urban telephony – 35,8% (33,9%)
    • Rural telephony – 2,8% (2,7%)
  • Mobile services* - 8,5% (7,3%);
  • New services (including Internet, intelligent network, IP telephony) – 2,8% (2,2 %);
  • Other services (TV, radio broadcasting and others) – 4,0% (7,2%);
*Revenues solely from own Perm-headquartered mobile business (GSM 900/1800, NMT 450i).

Operating expenses amounted to USD 454,7 mln (+30,6% as compared to similar indicator of 2002). The expenditure structure in 2003 is as follows:

  • Wages – 29,5% (29,8% in 2002);
  • Depreciation – 13,4% (13,4%);
  • Taxes and deductions – 8,9% (11,0%);
  • Other operating expenses – 48,2% (45,8%);
  • Including Rostelecom fees – 14,5% (13,6%)
As of 2003 year-end, EBITDA totaled USD 241,4 mln (+42,3%), operating profit - USD 180,7 mln (+46,9%), pre-tax profit – USD 89,6 mln (+114,0%), net profit – USD 60,4 mln (+171,8%).

The Capex volume amounted to USD 234,3 mln (+47,4% versus 2002). The Capex structure as of 2003 was as follows:

  • Local services – 49,0%;
  • DLD and ILD services – 17,5%;
  • Mobile services – 15,6%;
  • New services – 5,1%;
  • Other – 12,8%.
As of 2003 the company’s staff decreased to 35,2 thousand (-1,7% compared to the similar figure of 2002).

The installed capacity of fixed-line networks totaled 3,6 mln lines by 2003 year-end (+8,6% as compared to 2002), with 3,2 mln lines (+7,4%) being in use.

The fixed-line subscriber base totaled 3,2 mln by Jan 1, 2004, where urban and rural lines scored 2,8 mln and 0,4 mln respectively. The overall fixed-line penetration across the company equaled 20,9%.

The equipped capacity of GSM networks (including subsidiary businesses) reached 1,1 mln lines.
