In 2003 new Automatic Long-distance telephone exchange (AMTS) manufactured by the company «Alcatel» and SDH-based inter-zonal transportation network were put into operation in UTK regional branch «Volgogradelectrosvyaz». New AMTS made it possible to support dynamically developing traffic from city telephone network and cellular networks and resulted in improvement of traditional services provided. Besides, the new software version of the exchange allows to organize IP-telephony and data access nodes, access for subscribers of urban and rural telephone networks to digital intelligent network, as well as to make local, long-distance and international connections according to the information received from Call-centers. It allows to satisfy a growing demand of residential and business sectors for new telecom services. The city transit exchange was formed on the basis of the Alcatel exchange.

To increase the equipped capacity of the new AMTS and in connection with the construction of new digital exchanges in different areas of the Volgograd region, SDH equipment of STM-4 level was replaced by SDH equipment of STM-16 level in the Volgograd multi-service network and inter-zonal fiber-optic ring connecting eight regional centers with Volgograd. At present «Volgogradelectrosvyaz» can satisfy its own growing need for channels and also give high-speed digital channels for rent. Use of the equipment on the basis of optical multi-service network center made it possible to organize SDH-based high-speed fiber-optic trunk lines in the most distant areas of the region and provide the population of these areas with full range of new telecom services.
