RAO UES enterprises are restoring power to the inhabited localities of the North Caucasus republics after the blackout caused by adverse weather

Moscow, 10 March 2004. By now, the repair crews of OAO "Karachaevo-Cherkesskenergo" have fully restored power to the inhabited localities of Karachay-Circassia after the outage caused by power line breaks. The line breaks were due to the strong wind and heavy snowfall in the Republic on 7-8 March. Four 35 KV transmission lines were damaged, which resulted in full or partial blackout in 8 inhabited localities in the area around the skiing resort of Dombay and the observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. By mid-day of 9 March, the repair crews were able to restore power.

OAO "Dagenergo" crews are restoring power for customers in Dakhadaevsky and Laksky districts of Dagestan. The blackout was caused by the avalanches, heavy snowfalls, and high winds in the area on 5-8 March. By now, power has been restored to the district to meet the load of 57.9 MW out of the 60 MW before the outage. The situation is made worse by the difficulty of access to the damaged lines and the threat of new avalanches. The power is expected to be restored by this evening.
