Results of Alexander Medvedev and Marek Kossowski’s meeting

Warsaw hosted yesterday a working meeting between Alexander Medvedev, Gazprom’s Management Committee Member and Gazexport’s Director General and Marek Kossowski, CEO of PGNiG (Polish State Oil and Gas Company).

The meeting focused on the current and future areas of cooperation in the gas industry. At the same time, the parties considered termination of gas deliveries to Poland on February 18, caused by the non-sanctioned Russian gas withdrawal by Belarus.

The parties also affirmed their adherence to rigorously abide by the existing contracts and agreed to set up a string of joint working groups to decide on uninterrupted gas deliveries to Polish consumers and on future cooperation issues.

The following working groups are expected to start operating from April this year: expansion of underground gas storage capacities in eastern Poland; secure gas deliveries in emergencies; gas supply optimization through the existing distribution centers and examination of the Polish and other European gas markets with the view of developing new gas transportation capacities.

Reference:

Poland annually consumes some 12 bcm of gas, including about 30% produced by Poland itself.

Russian gas deliveries to Poland cover over 70% of the latter country’s gas needs (or make up 94% of Poland’s overall gas imports). In addition, Polish companies have concluded a handful of contracts and agreements on gas deliveries from Germany, Norway and Ukraine.

PGNiG is the largest Polish energy company owning a local gas pipeline network with total length of some 16.7 thousand km.
