Nadvoitsy Aluminium, part of SUAL Group, one of the world's top ten aluminium producers, has today received a Certificate of Conformity demonstrating that its quality management system meets the requirements of the international ISO 9001:2000 standard.

The certification follows a successful audit of the Nadvoitsy Aluminium smelter by UK-based certification body, BM TRADA. The audit, which lasted four days, covered all Nadvoitsy's operations and verified that they were carried out to the required standards. The smelter produces only high grade aluminium, of maximum purity levels, conforming to the five highest Russian GOST standards, from A7 to A85.

As part of the preparatory work for the certification, many of the employees at Nadvoitsy undertook additional training in quality management, which was praised by the auditors. «We found the professionalism of the staff and specialists at Nadvoitsy, as well as the plans for development of the smelter, very encouraging,» said Lead Auditor Svetlana Belbelian.

Nadvoitsy Aluminium is the 11th plant in the SUAL Group to receive ISO 9001 accreditation. Commenting on the certification, the plant's Technical Director, Nikolay Lukin, said «Together with my colleagues, we are delighted to receive this certification, proving our work conforms to the highest international standards. This is a significant step, not only for Nadvoitsy, but for SUAL as a whole, because it underlines the Group's commitment to use world recognised operating procedures at each of its facilities.»

Mrs Belbelian added, «It is important for Russian companies to gain internationally recognised accreditations, and demonstrate they operate in accordance with the highest standards, in order to compete effectively in the international marketplace.»

Nadvoitsy Aluminium is situated in the Segezha Region of the Republic of Karelia, located between St. Petersburg and Murmansk. The project plan for the smelter construction was developed in 1948 and the first batch of aluminium was produced on 25 September 1954. The operation was integrated into OAO Siberian-Urals Aluminium as a subsidiary in 2003.
