On Gazprom’s delegation’s visit to India

Yesterday, in New Delhi, within the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin’s official visit to India, Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman took part in the meeting with Mani Shankar Aiyar, India’s Petroleum Minister.

The meeting addressed the outlook of Russian-Indian cooperation in the oil and gas sector, debating, in particular, Gazprom’s interaction with India’s oil and gas firms when delivering energy carriers to said country.

Today, Gazprom’s delegation held a meeting with the ONGC Group’s executive leadership. The parties deliberated on potential cooperation in exploration and development of oil and gas fields, in the Sakhalin Island offshore inclusive, as well as on the prospect of implementing joint projects aimed at the construction of hydrocarbon deep processing facilities and supplies of said output to India and Asia Pacific.

At the end of the meeting, Gazprom and ONGC Group initialed a Memorandum of intentions to cooperate in the above-mentioned directions.

Being India’s largest company as for its proved reserves and hydrocarbon production, ONGC Group is mainly focused on exploration and development of oil and gas fields.

At present, the company is operating 115 oil and gas fields, with the Mumbai field being the largest one ensuring some 40% of India’s overall production.

ONGC Group is being involved in 13 international projects implemented in 10 countries of world.

On 3 December 2004, Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman and Proshanto Banerjee, Chairman & Managing Director of the state-run company Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) entered into an Agreement on strategic cooperation. Under the Agreement, Gazprom and GAIL’s major businesses will include the study and implementation of projects on natural gas deliveries to India as well as the intensification of joint activities at Block 26 in the Bengal Bay. In addition, the Agreement stipulates cooperation between the companies in the oil sector.
