RUSAL streamlines its raw materials and metal assets with the creation of two new divisions

MOSCOW, 01 March 2004 - RUSAL, one of the world's leading aluminium companies, announced today changes in its corporate structure with the formation of two new divisions – Alumina and Aluminium, to manage its raw material and metal assets coming into effect on 01 March.  This is part of the company’s ongoing restructuring programme to streamline its internal structure and achieve further operational efficiencies.  RUSAL will have six business divisions - Alumina, Aluminium, Mill Products, Packaging, Can and Aluminium Constructions Elements.

The Alumina Division is a consolidation of all the bauxite and alumina assets - the Compagnie de Bauxite de Kindia (CBK) in Guinea, the Alumina Company of Guinea, the Nikolaev refinery in the Ukraine and the Achinsk refinery in Russia, along with all the service centers used to maintain them.

The Aluminium Division is a consolidation of the Krasnoyarsk, Sayanogorsk, Bratsk and Novokuznetsk aluminium smelters as well as their maintenance services centers and the Engineering and Technological Center.

"This new structure better reflects the future needs of RUSAL as we manage the growth of the company, in our ambition to be the dominant global primary aluminium producer.  It offers us the flexibility we need in responding to the variables of the global aluminium market,”  - said RUSAL's CEO Alexander Boulygine.

Steve Hodgson has been appointed as the Director of Alumina Division, leaving his position as RUSAL's Director of Sales and Marketing. Valeri Matvienko, who is now the company’s Production Director, heads the new Aluminium Division.
