PRISCO seafarers saved crew of the foreign vessel

On February 23 at 7:55 a.m. local time tanker “Partizansk” of the Primorsk Shipping Corporation on its way from Nakhodka to Magadan received SOS signal from South-Korean vessel “Asian Noble” sinking 50 miles from the coast of Primorsky Krai. There were 20 crew members – 8 Koreans and 13 Philippines aboard the vessel carrying coal from Vostochny Port. South-Korean motor vessel faced heavy storm, hold covers were torn off and water started to flow inside the vessel. After notification of Vladivostok Rescue and Coordination Center master of m/t “Partizansk” followed to the disaster area which was 11 miles from it. Having approached “Asian Noble” crew of m/t “Partizansk” started rescue operations. When 18 foreign seamen had been taken aboard from the lifeboat master Mikhail Apasov was told that chief mate and boatswain were missing. Then watch officer from m/t “Partizansk” noticed a man overboard, his life jacket was torn he showed no signs of living. In heavy weather conditions; storm 6 scores and wind speed 15 meters per second PRISCO seafarers tried to get the man from the water but their attempts were not successful – boatswain’s body disappeared under the water. At 01:10 p.m. m/t “Asian Noble” turned over and went down but searches of the chief mate were not stopped. He was found at one of four rafts around the upturned vessel, taken aboard the tanker and rendered first medical aid. PRISCO seamen were going on to search for boatswain up to 07:00 p.m. and only after the order from Vladivostok Rescue and Coordination Center tanker “Partizansk” with 19 foreign seamen aboard went to Nakhodka. Master Apasov told that all seamen feel well and there is no danger to their lives.
