In 2003, JSC "Severstal" introduced 35 new products into commercial production and shipped over 40 thousand tons of new products to its customers

According to Mr. ?lexander Stepanov, Severstal's Technical director, "introduction of the new products is connected to the expansion of the steel company's clientele, improvement of products' properties for the key clients, as well as with the participation of JSC "Severstal" in prospective projects".

First of all, as Mr. ?lexander Stepanov noted, it concerns the products manufactured in conformity with the new requirements to their quality and technological properties. Primarily, these innovations were introduced in the field of the products for the Fuel & Power Complex. Out of all newly introduced in 2003 products, more than 10 were intended for the Fuel & Power Complex.

Among strategically significant objects, Technical director emphasized the realization of those included into Project "Sakhalin", the steel for which is produced in Hot Rolling Shops #1 and #2. In particular, the production program under project "Sakhalin-1" in Hot Rolling Shop #1 is to be completed already in March. The rolling technology for steel grade L450?? was developed and the supply of the rolled products within the framework of this program in accordance with Project "Sakhalin-1" was commenced. The importance of the project realization is based upon the necessity of successful supply of high quality products to one of the world largest consumers of gas-oil-pipes - Exxon Mobil (in the person of company Exxon Neftegas Ltd. as the operator of Project "Sakhalin-1").

Last year the development and the introduction of the technology for production of skelp feed ?65 for JSC "Vyksa" were accomplished in Hot Rolling Shops #2 within the framework of Project "Sakhalin-2".

Severstal's shipment of the rolled products under "Sakhalin-1" and "Sakhalin-2" Projects in 2003 totaled over 25 thou.tons. Out of this figure, around 5.4 thou.t. were skelp feed. According to Technical director, the realization of the new expanded program on the development and introduction of new products for "Sakhalin-2" shall commence in Hot Rolling Shop #1 in March.

Besides, in 2003 the development of the technology and introduction into the production of skelp feed in coils for export in conformity with the requirements of API 5L (steel grades ?42 - ?70) ?s well as the work on improvement of the technology and the expansion of the corrosion-resistant skelp feed product range from steel grade 09GSF in sheets and coils, were carried out.

As per the results of 2003, the volume of skelp feed shipped increased by 6.5% - up to 1150 thou.t.; the ratio between the export and the internal supplies was 32% and 68%.
