MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

March 1, 2001

In 2000 Zagorsk HPSPP power output went up by 46 percent

In 2000 the Zagorsk HPSPP (Hydroelectric Pumped Storage Power Plant) produced 46 percent more power than in 1999, plant director A. Kuleshov announced at a Sergiev Posad press conference on the results of the plant's operation in 2000. He also pointed out that the actual power output for 2000 was 1297.6 million kWh. After Unit 6 was put to operation last August, the plant's capacity rose by 200 MW and reached the projected level of 1200 MW. The volume of circulating water used for generating and storing power grew doubled as well. The plant's efficiency ratio for 2000 reached 73 percent (global standards set efficiency for this type of plants at no lower than 70 percent).

Due to a previous upgrade the actual cost of power produced by the Zagorsk HPSPP was 191.3 million rubles, which is lower than the projected power production cost by 2.9 million rubles. In 2000 new capital assets were introduced in the amount of 545.2 million rubles while the projected level was 519.4 million.

Repairs and maintenance of the plant's capital assets were performed at the projected level of 25.3 million rubles. There were no unscheduled or emergency repairs.

According to existing plans, in November 2001 they plan to complete the construction of the main units of the hydro-scheme and have the HPSPP accepted and approved for operation by the Government Acceptance and Approvals Committee. The scheduled activities will result in improved reliability and environmental safety of the plant.

"Our goal is to ensure the plant's efficient operation and to continue reducing production costs which will improve the plant's reliability and environmental safety," Kuleshov said.
