Telephones rates to go up

Effective October 1, 2002 telephone rates will be raised for most regional telecom operators.  This is in line with a resolution passed by the Anti-Monopoly Ministry of the Russian Federation on September 11, 2002.  Under Anti-Monopoly Ministry Order No. 654 dated September 13, 2002 Khantymansiiskokrtelecom has been authorized to increase its monthly subscriber telephone fees from Rub 110 to Rub 135 in cities and from Rub 60 to Rub 90 in rural areas.

There will also be a slight increase in monthly subscriber fees for budget organizations, which will be raised to Rub 270 in cities and Rub 200 in rural areas. In addition, it should be noted that the Anti-Monopoly Ministry has left unchanged the base tariff for enterprises and organizations which are not financed by federal, regional or local budgets.

The decision of the Anti-Monopoly Ministry is dictated by the need to enable telecom operators to cover their basic operating expenses.
