The town of Sosnogorsk (Komi Republic) today hosted the inauguration of a gas processing unit at the Severgazprom’s Sosnogorsk Gas Processing Plant (GPP).

Attending the ceremony were Alexander Ryazanov, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee and Miroslav Fiala, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Skoda JS (Plzen, Czechia).

Member of the Russian United Machine Building Plants Corporation (OMZ), Skoda JS acted as general contractor for the Sosnogorsk GPP upgrading project.

Having a 3 bcm/y capacity, Sosnogorsk GPP’s new gas processing unit counts on state-of-the-art technologies meeting global standards. The unit will annually produce 60,000 tons of propane, 120,000 tons of propane-butane and 25,000 tons of stabilized condensate.

With the unit brought into operation, the towns of Ukhta and Sosnogorsk will have a great deal better environment and lower carbonic oxide (from 475 down to 76.8 t/y) and nitric dioxide (from 199.6 down to 72.1 t/y) emissions.

“The Sosnogorsk GPP upgrading will allow us to deeply process gas coming from the Vuktyla group of fields and to achieve 98% of selective extraction. Thus, the Plant will not only enlarge its production capacities but will considerably enhance its competitiveness and export potential,” – said A. Ryazanov in his greeting speech.

In 1999, Skoda JS won the tender to implement the Sosnogorsk GPP upgrading project. In addition to Skoda JS, the tender participants included companies from Japan, the USA and Germany.

In March 2000, Severgazprom and Skoda JS signed a contract on said project implementation. The construction period lasted for 27 months and a new production line was launched on 20 November 2004.

Founded in 1941 and known as Ukhta GPP before 1981, Severgazprom’s Sosnogorsk GPP includes gas processing facilities, gas stripping and liquid hydrocarbon capacities, a commercial gasoline production unit, technical carbon production unit and rubber technology shop.

Until now, the Sosnogorsk GPP included the 1.5 bcm/y GOU-USK-2 gas processing complex, with total selective extraction below 40%.

The United Machine Building Plants Corporation (OMZ) is one of the largest Russian heavy industry enterprises, having branches in Russia and Czechia. The company specializes in the engineering, manufacturing and servicing of knowledge-intensive equipment and machinery for the nuclear power and mining industries. In addition, OMZ manufactures specialty steel large size forgings and castings.

An OMZ subsidiary since the 2nd half of 2004, Skoda JS’s major businesses are designing, manufacturing and rendering of services in the nuclear machine building and refining sectors.
