MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

January 22, 2004

AO MOSENERGO summed up environmental air protection efforts in 2003

22.01.2004 ?.

Throughout 2003, AO MOSENERGO's power stations did not exceed the statutory environmental limits. In addition, environmental efforts and lower solid fuel consumption allowed the Company to reduce the emission of solid particles by 15% and nytrogen oxide – by 1.6%.

AO MOSENERGO is a major industrial company in the Moscow region, therefore, environment protection is a key priority for the Company. To fulfill this goal, AO MOSENERGO upgrades power stations on a regular basis, as well as implements modern technologies that limit the technical impact on the regional environment. In addition, AO MOSENERGO takes part in the Program for Environmental Protection at Operating Facilities of AO MOSENERGO to 2010. This Program provides for upgrades of existing power facilities in terms of improving their ecological parameters.

In 2003, AO MOSENERGO's fuel spend considerably grew as a result of higher power consumption that increased 4% against 2002. However, the emission of pollutants grew only by 1%. The growth of fuel consumption did not lead to material changes in AO MOSENERGO's fuel balance. As usual, the bigger part of consumption was gas (more than 92%) – the cleanest and the most efficient fuel. Compared to the previous year, the Company's gas consumption grew by 4%, whereas liquid fuel (heating oil) consumption grew only 1.1%. The consumption of solid fuel decreased by 13%.

In the last decade, the Moscow power company made considerable progress in environmental air protection. Today, none of AO MOSENERGO's plants violate environmental standards while most facilities operate at levels which are lower than statutory emission requirements several times. AO MOSENERGO operates the cleanest power station in Europe – CHP-27. In general, power facilities account for around 5% of total emissions in Moscow. The major source of pollutants are still cars that emit 85% of pollutants.
