RAO UES completes project to install mobile gas turbine power plants in the Moscow Region

Moscow. 16 November 2007. Three mobile gas turbine units with a combined capacity of 45 MW have been put into pilot operation at the 110 kV Rublyovo Substation. The acceptance certificate has been signed by the Central Acceptance Commission comprising representatives of the Russian Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision, RAO "UES of Russia", OAO "Mobile GTPPs", and OAO "VO Technopromexport".

Thus, RAO "UES of Russia" has completed the project to install ten mobile gas turbine power plants in the Moscow Region pursuant to the RAO UES Investment Programme and the Agreement between RAO "UES of Russia" and the Moscow Region Government signed in 2006.

The combined capacity of ten mobile GTPPs deployed in the Moscow Region totals 225 MW. Previously, in 2007, seven mobile GTPPs were successfully launched at the Daryino 110 kV Substation, Novosyrovo 110 kV Substation, and Pushkino 110 kV Substation.

Over the past few years, the Moscow Energy System has seen a rapid growth in power consumption. The increase in power use is observed not only in winter, during the period of extremely low temperatures, but also during the summer months. The peak loads in the energy system emerge during the morning and evenings hours. The Mobile GTPPs are designed to help improve the reliability of power supply to customers in Moscow and the surrounding Moscow Region and make the region's energy system operation much more stable. The Mobile GTPPs are expected to operate primarily during the peak load periods, i.e. not more than 4 hours a day or ca. 150 hours a year.

Mobile GTPPs operate in over 40 countries, including Canada, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, and Israel. Such plants were used during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. According to the Rostekhnadzor certificate, the mobile GTPPs built in the Moscow Region are in full compliance with the Russian environmental standards and requirements.
