OJSC North-West Telecom has connected the one millionth subscriber to Internet broadband access services

On 10th November 2010 OJSC North-West Telecom congratulated its one-millionth subscriber for Internet broadband access service s. It was Natalya Gavrilovna Mikhaylova who entered into a contract for the provision of a package of Triple Play service s (Internet+SIP telephony +IP TV) using the PON technology in St. Petersburg.

A celebration in honour of the one-millionth subscriber for Internet broadband access service s took place at the ceremony of opening the new Client Service Centre of the Flagman category at 22, Bolshaya Morskaya St., St. Petersburg.

Congratulating Natalya Gavrilovna, Oleg Viktorovich Popov, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Commercial Director of OJSC N.W.Telecom handed in a valuable gift, an MSI notebook, to her and expressed confidence that the up-to-date personal computer will help her always stay in touch, be at the centre of things and really enjoy the use of modern telecommunication facilities .

“The quality of our service s and the active marketing policy allows OJSC N.W.Telecom to retain stably the leading position s in the Internet access market and we occupy about 50% of the market in the Northwestern Federal District,” O. V. Popov noted. “Crossing the one millionth mark in broadband access connections is a significant landmark for OJSC N.W.Telecom. I would call it the event of the year 2010. Our company is the third of the Svyazinvest Group’s companies (after OJSC Volgatelecom and Centertelecom) that has achieved this mark.”

OJSC North-West Telecom has been providing the service of Internet broadband access using the ADSL technology* to private clients under the Avangard trademark since the year 2006. The Internet access services using the PON technology** under the Mega Avangard trademark have been provided since 2008 in St. Petersburg, and since 2009 in Kaliningrad.

At the moment, 300,000 broadband access subscribers out of the one million live in St. Petersburg, about 70,000 having been connected using the PON technology and about 30,000 us ing the Avangard TV service .

* The ADSL technology makes it possible to provide the service of high-speed access to the Internet via the existing telephone line using an ADSL modem.

** New generation telecommunication service s based on the passive optical network (PON) technology. The technology provides for creating a fibre-optic infrastructure both to buildings and inside them, including to customers' apartments.
