On the 18th of October the Sixth International Forum Exhibition Infocommunications of Russia – 21st century – InfoCom-2006 was opened . The opening ceremony of Infocom-2006 was interactively broadcast in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg and Irkutsk at the same time.  

In the Northwestern Federal District InfoCom-2006 is held in the modern Exhibition Centre of the North-West. OJSC North-West Telecom and the RESTEK exhibition association are co-organizers of the exhibition .

The following official s were present at the opening ceremony of Infocom-2006 in St. Petersburg: Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for Information Technologies and Communication Dmitry Alexandrovich Milovantsev,   Assistant Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District Yevgeny Ivanovich Makarov, Chairperson of the Information Policy and Telecommunications Committee of Leningrad Oblast Mikhail Moiseyevich Mikhailichenko, Deputy Chairman   of the St. Petersburg Informatization and Communication Committee Alexey Voldemarovich Azarskov, General Manager of OJSC North-West Telecom Vladimir Alexandrovich Akulich,   General Manager of CJSC VO RESTEK Igor Petrovich Kirsanov.

Assistant Plenipotentiary of the President of the Russian Federation in the Northwestern Federal District Yevgeny Ivanovich Makarov greeted guests and participants of InfoCom in Moscow and Federal District s on behalf of all those present on the site in St. Petersburg. In his address he said that for the recent years, in the conditions of practically exhausted sources of extensive development, the telecommunication industry started actively developing new technologies and introducing new services that were penetrating into all spheres of the society's life. Enterprise s of the industry do much to resolve the social tasks of providing telecommunication services to the most remote places of the region and to implement the federal programmes of providing educational institutions with Internet.

Having cut the red ribbon, Dmitry Alexandrovich Milovantsev and Yevgeny Ivanovich Makarov launched the InfoCom-2006 exhibition in the North-West of Russia. Addressing those attending, Dmitry Milovantsev noted that for 6 years of its existence the InfoCom-2006 exhibition had significantly changed. While before North-West Telecom used to inform people on the progress of the work of reducing the queue for telephone installation , on the development of rural and city telephone networks, today N.W.Telecom is presenting at InfoCom-2006 modern service s of broadband access to the Internet using the ADSL technology , for it is on this project that the efforts of all company branches are concentrated. All these examples show that today the industry is becoming service -oriented.

North-West Telecom is presenting new up-to-date telecommunication services for the population and organizations at the exhibition. For corporate clients , OJSC N.W.Telecom is arranging a presentation of the new trademark , AlliancePRO, which includes three package offers for clients having different telecommunication services requirement s: "Office", "Prestige" and " Corporation". For individual clients new free "Avangard" services are presented: Network Games, My Files and My Photos. A special offer, exclusively for visitors of the exhibition , who are subscribers of the Petersburg branch of OJSC N.W.Telecom , will be presented – connection to the "Avangard" service under any rate plan for 1 rouble.  

The programme of OJSC North-West Telecom 's stand includes holding a workshop on the 21st of October with elements of a show "How to Protect One's Virtual World" aimed at fighting spam, computer viruses and hacking.
