Moscow. 16 October 2007. Two mobile gas turbine power units with a combined capacity of 45 MW have been put into pilot operation at the 110 kV Pushkino Substation. The acceptance certificate has been signed by the Central Acceptance Commission comprising representatives of the Russian Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision ("Rostechnadzor"), RAO "UES of Russia", OAO "Mobile GTPPs", and OAO "VO Technopromexport".

This is the third mobile gas turbine power plant to be deployed in the Moscow Region under the RAO UES Investment Programme and the Agreement between RAO "UES of Russia" and the Moscow Region Government of 20 November 2006. The aggregate capacity of the existing mobile power stations has now reached 135 MW. It is planned that as many as 10 mobile GTPPs with a combined capacity of 225 MW will be deployed in Moscow and the Moscow Region.

Over the past few years, the Moscow Energy System has seen a rapid growth of power consumption. The increase in power use is observed not only in winter, during the period of extremely low temperatures, but also during the summer months. The peak loads in the energy system emerge during the morning and evenings hours. The Mobile GTPPs are designed to help improve the reliability of power supply to customers in Moscow and the surrounding Moscow Region and make the region's energy system operation much more stable. The Mobile GTPPs are expected to operate primarily during the peak load periods, i.e. not more than 4 hours a day or ca. 150 hours a year.

The first two 45 MW mobile GTPPs manufactured by Pratt & Whitney were deployed near the 110 kV Daryino substation. The GTPPs were brought on line on 22 February 2007 and are successfully operating in the Moscow energy system. On 15 September 2007, another two similar units were launched at the 110 kV Novosyrovo substation. The next mobile GTPP is to be deployed at the 110 kV Rublevo substation. Its launch is scheduled for 15 November 2007.

Mobile GTPPs operate in over 40 countries, including Canada, United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, and Israel. Such plants were used during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. According to the Rostechnadzor certificate, the mobile GTPPs built in the Moscow Region are in full compliance with the Russian environmental standards and requirements.
