Penza power engineers summed up the results of the 2020 Environmental Program

The Penzaenergo Branch of Rosseti Volga, PJSC has summed up the results of the implementation of the 2020 environmental program.

"Measures to reduce the negative impact on the environment in four areas of the program have been completed in full and on time," said Maya Lokteva, Deputy Chief Engineer – Director of Safety and Industrial Supervision Department of the Penzaenergo Branch. "In particular, at our power facilities, 27 oil-filled bushings were replaced with solid insulation bushings. Thus, we exclude the harmful effect on the environment of petroleum products during possible bottling. At the same time, the use of new bushings reduces the risk of fire and explosion if this equipment is damaged."

During 2020, Penza energy workers installed 1,070 bird protection devices (BPDs). These works are carried out in order to save the life of birds from electric shock and reduce the number of emergency shutdowns of overhead lines (OLs). Often birds use elements of overhead lines for rest and nesting. Being near live parts, they risk getting energized as a result of accidentally touching the wire or getting an electric discharge. Work on equipping sections of 35 and 110 kV OLs with BPDs has been carried out in the Penzaenergo Branch for more than 10 years.

"In the territories of technological responsibility of Penzaenergo, years long systematic work is continued to replace bare wires with insulated ones. This year we have replaced 65 km of such a wire on 0.4–10 kV lines. It not only increases the reliability of power supply to our consumers, but also completely eliminates injury to birds by electric shock. In addition, the use of an insulated wire makes it possible to reduce the cutting area along overhead power lines," clarified Maya Lokteva.

Last year, the Penzaenergo Branch was equipped with 17 additional sites for accumulation of production and consumption waste. In all production offices, waste not subject to disposal was regularly handed over to specialized organizations. Also, noise levels were measured at the boundaries of the sanitary exclusion zone throughout the technological responsibility of the branch. Exceeding the permissible indicators was not revealed.
