UN signs two contracts with UTair for transportation services to Liberian peacekeeping mission

The United Nations has signed two contracts with UTair Aviation (UTair, the city of Khanty-Mansiysk) for transportation services to the UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia (Africa).

The first contract was signed after the airline won a UN tender. This contract stipulates the use of five Mi-8MTV helicopters, and three of them will start operating under the contract on October 16. Another two helicopters will be sent to Liberia at an additional request from the UN.

The second one-year contract, which can be prolonged for one more year, stipulates the use of two Mi-26 helicopters for passenger traffic, emergency and medical evacuation operations as well as cargo transportation inside the helicopter and in the external load sling system. UTair is expected to purchase a new Mi-26 helicopter to implement this contract.

All helicopters will start operations in Monrovia, their base city in Liberia.

Currently, a Mi-8MTV helicopter of UTair is already operating in Liberia under a one-year contract.

The total volume of revenues under these contracts will exceed $19m a year.

At present, 14 UTair helicopters are providing transportation services for UN peacekeeping missions in East Timor, Sierra Leone, Eritrea and Congo, and five Mi-8T helicopters are operating under contracts in the Republic of South Africa.

UTair is the world largest helicopter operator and one of the largest passenger carriers in Russia. It operates a total of 294 aircraft.
