Aeroflot expands its freight service

Aeroflot offers new service to its customers – road feeder service – freight delivery around Europe by trucks to/from Hahn Airport (Aeroflot cargo base in Germany) connecting to SU regular freight flights to Russia and Asia. The service provides freight delivery by trucks to/from Milan, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt for shipping by regular freight flights to/from Moscow, Novosibirsk and points of Far East and South-East Asia. This service is supported by advanced monitoring system that informs customers on freight movements on-line.

Aeroflot makes regular daily freight flights  to/from Hahn via Russia to Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Peking.

Among Aeroflot cargo partners are reliable agents like  SCHENKER, NIPPON EXPRESS, PAN ALPINA, DANZAS.

Since the end of 2003 Aeroflot has been operating four DC-10-40 freight planes that substituted Ilyushins-76, now out of Aeroflot fleet. The decision is made to upgrade this fleet in 2005 by more advanced  MD-11 cargo. Aeroflot regional office in Hahn acts as in fact its European freight hub concentrating export and import freight flows. During the 9 months of the current year Aeroflot freight operations increased by 33% in comparison to the same period of the last year due to more efficient use of fleet and customer base development.

Aeroflot–Russian Airlines (RTS: AFLT) is the largest Russian Company. It was established in 1923. The state owns 51 per cent of its stocks. It controls 11 per cent of home and 39 per cent of international market of air carriages of Russia. There are 92 airliners in its fleet – 27 Airbus and Boeing planes produced in 2003-2004. Its headquarter is located in Moscow in Sheremetyevo Airport. It is going to build its own terminal Sheremetyevo–3 by 2007. Aeroflot makes flights to 93 destinations of 47 countries of the world. In 2003 Aeroflot transported 5.8 million passengers. The company is included into the list of 25 top airline companies of the world according to its financial results.

Among the world airline companies-IATA members Aeroflot is included in the list of 50 largest companies according to freight carriages; it is one of the airline companies combining carriages by flights of freight and passenger aircrafts. Regions of the prior importance in Aeroflot freight carriages development are SEA and Europe. The demands of other markets are satisfied through the system of passenger flights.

In 2003 Aeroflot-Russian Airlines freight carriages amounted to 109 900 tons of freight (in 2002 – 105 300 tons, 4.4% increase), post carriages achieved 4 246 400 tons.
