DATADOT technology

A few months ago KAMAZ Inc. has introduced a DATADOT technology for marking its finished products to fight against faked products. Today this technology is officially recognized on the whole territory of the Russian Federation. So far, this is one of few effective means aimed at protection of vehicles from stealing and vehicle’s components and spare parts from counterfeiting.

Almost invisible dots will help to find not only a stolen vehicle but also a knocked down car or truck.

Visually, the DATADOT marking looks like a transparent polymer with a lot of dots, which actually include an identification information about a manufacturer. These microdots are dispersed on both easy- and difficult to access components. Only once within a service life of a vehicle it is covered with a mixture /suspension in accordance with the process sheets. This mixture is not dissolved by any solvents, nor it is possible to paint it. It efficiently resists engine heat, and is visible under ultra violet light.

Each microdot (there are 10 000 of them) contains a vehicle’s identification number, which is then registered in a database of the State Road Police. This helps to identify a vehicle or its components quite easily. Using a portable ultraviolet spot-light and a magnifying glass one can see the repeated sign RUS/KAMAZ/ORIGINAL marked on each dot of a component manufactured by KAMAZ Inc. Even if a thief removes several such dots, he will never be able to destroy all of them. Moreover, now it will be more difficult to re-sale a stolen component or a vehicle. Just one single dot found by a road police inspector will be enough to identify a vehicle by its unique identification number, and then to identify its owner, and the whole history of such a vehicle/component since it has been sold and left KAMAZ territory.
