On October 21, North-West Telecom held a “Safe Work Methods in the Internet” as part of an international exhibition forum titled “Russia’s Info Communications – 21st Century”, InforCom-2004.

The event related to educational and suppressing activity against so-called “solicited communication services”. The seminar demonstrated the working principles of web-traps and the algorithm of appearance of international connections during the users’ Internet sessions.

This is an up-to-date subject, knowing that the number of NWT subsidiary customers’ applications regarding their unusually high phone bills for international calls does not go down. The customers believe that the bills are irrelevant, as they did not use international communication and did not call the phone numbers listed in the printouts.

During the seminar, the Company’s experts clearly showed the web resources where web traps are usually to be found – that is, offers of access to erotic or pornographic websites free of credit card payment. 

They told the visitors of the NWT stand about the methods of suppression of illegal connections, about the legal side of ‘solicited’ communication services, and the actions taken by the Company to minimize such cases.
