ROSSETI

June 3, 2021

Rosseti and Russian Railways (RZD) have agreed on cooperation in the field of electric power industry

PJSC Rosseti and OJSC Russian Railways have concluded a long-term cooperation agreement. Its purpose is to synchronize the development plans and to improve the reliability of the companies' power grid facilities.

Andrey Ryumin, Director General of PJSC Rosseti, and Oleg Belozerov, Head of JSCo Russian Railways have signed the document today in the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Under the agreement, PJSC Rosseti will exercise control over the issues of technological connection of JSCo Russian Railways's facilities to the electric power grid, as well as electric power transmission in the volumes necessary for the operation of railway transport.

The companies intend to synchronize the programs for the development of the electric grid with the plans for the development of railway transport until 2025.

Russian Railways is one of the largest consumers of Rosseti's services. The largest comprehensive energy project in the modern history of Russia is associated with the development of the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian highways. A large part of the works has already been completed – seven UNPG facilities have been constructed. In the next two years, we will complete the approved works and will launch over 1,100 km of new power lines and 1.3 thousand MVA transformer capacity, and will also launch the second stage of electrification to increase the traffic volume through the Eastern Landfill to 180 million tons of cargo per year. The signed agreement will address these tasks more efficiently and open up a wide range of cooperation areas on the development of railway transport in the country," Andrey Ryumin said.

Joint elaboration and attraction of financing sources are scheduled for the implementation of the investment projects related to the railways power supply. The companies will coordinate the activities on engineering, construction, reconstruction, and commissioning of the facilities.

The parties will also take the necessary measures to prevent technological disruptions in the power grid complex, conduct joint drills to practice actions in the event of emergencies, and develop measures to improve the reliability of power supply to the companies' facilities.
