MMK opens new Metal Centre for auto manufaturers in Tatarstan

Today, the opening ceremony for a new Service Metal Centre (SMC) MMK-Dzhokkunos-Alabuga was held in Tatarstan. This is a joint project between Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) and Coºkunoz-Alabuga – a producer of steel moulded parts for automobile manufacturers.

The Service Centre is located in the Special Economic Zone of Alabuga – the largest industrial special economic zone in Russia. The ceremony was attended by President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnihanov, Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Boris Dubrovskiy, Chairman of PJSC MMMK Victor Rashnikov, General Director of PJSC MMK Pavel Shilyaev, General Coordinator of Coºkunoz Holding and General Director of MMK-Dzhokkunos-Alabuga Ahmet Erdem Ajai, and President and CEO of Ford Sollers Adil Shirinov, as well as other officials and representatives of the leading auto manufacturers, which are the potential clients of the SMC.

MMK-Dzhokkunos-Alabuga produces steel billets used in auto parts manufacturing. The Centre is capable of producing up to 60,000 tonnes of products per year. The SMC will be able to offer a full production cycle to the Russian auto manufacturers, as well as international companies with locations in Russia, particularly those located in the Volga and Ural regions. The Centre’s potential clients include Ford, KAMAZ, KAMAZ-Daimler, ARNPO, Nissan, AVOTVAZ, GM-Avtovaz, UAZ, and GAZ among others.

High-quality steel billets are fabricated billets with working holes and bends necessary for moulded auto body parts. Each product has its own technological specifications and complies with the internal standards of the automobile plants. Production requirements comply with TS-16949-2002, ISO 9000, ISO 1400, and OHSAS 18001 standards.

Chairman of PJSC MMK, Victor Rashnikov, said: “MMK’s participation in the project is in line with its strategy to increase the share of high value added products supplied to the Russian market. The launch of the state-of-the-art Service Metal Centre to produce steel billets will allow MMK to strengthen its positions on the automotive sheet market in the region with the highest concentration of auto manufacturing facilities.”
