COMSTAR-UTS enters the telecom market of the Stupinsky District, Moscow Region

August 30, 2010, Moscow: COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), a leading provider of integrated telecom solutions in Russia and the CIS, announces completion of its telecom network construction and commencement of its performance in the Stupinsky District, Moscow Region. Project investments have amounted to some 50 million rubles over 1 year.

The operator has launched broadband and VPN services for individuals and enterprises of Stupino and the Stupinsky district based on its own new-generation transport core (NGN). Besides, COMSTAR leases communication channels to a number of large local operators.

A total length of fiber-optic backbone lines installed during network construction has made 90 km. COMSTAR-UTS has commissioned two communication nodes in Stupino at once: L2 backbone node of the transport network and data transmission & telematic network services node. Communication facilities have been mounted using high-performance advanced equipment by Cisco based on the IP/MPLS packet switching technology.

“Thanks to our co-operation with Stupino administration, we have been able to tune up the network in no time and set upon provision of services to dwellers and organizations of the Stupinsky district. We hope that the network will enable further development of COMSTAR-UTS in the region and solution of many social issues. Network expansion in the Stupino District will enable a whole range of telecom services, including IPTV,” Dmitry Dronov, Director of COMSTAR-UTS Moscow Region branch, says.

In the first half of 2010, the COMSTAR-UTS branch launched 5 L2 backbone nodes in Pushkino, Domodedovo, Lobnya, Dmitrov and Stupino as part of the second stage of the multi-service transport network construction in the Moscow region. In August 2009, COMSTAR-UTS completed and launched a backbone ring of the transport core in the Moscow region. The transport network in the Moscow Region comprises L1 and L2 backbone nodes. Availability of a well-developed infrastructure creates a potential for COMSTAR-UTS approach to new local markets of the Moscow Region.
