The fourth international large and special-sized diamond auction organised by ALROSA Co. Ltd. in conjunction with the Diamond Chamber of Russia began in Moscowon 23d August, 2004. Some 33 Russian and foreign bidders with a good reputation in business and specialised in large stones from the USA, India, Israel, Belgium, British Virgin Islands, Byelarus took part in it.
The lots were available for preview on the premises of the Diamond Chamber of Russia for a month. Altogether 72 boxes with a total weight of 9.95 thousand carats were offered for sale. These included 16 exceptionally large diamonds, each weighing over 50 carats which were not classified as ‘unique’ by the Ministry of Finance Expert Panel. The largest of them weighed over 96 carats.
The results were announced on 5th October, 2004. 71 boxes were sold for a total amount of over USD 14.4 million.
