Gazprom commissions state-of-the-art power unit at CHPP-26 in Moscow

Power unit No.8 (CCGT-420) at CHPP-26 of Mosenergo was commissioned today during the annual General Shareholders Meeting of Gazprom.

The Meeting participants held a video link with Kirill Seleznev, Member of the Management Committee, Head of the Gas and Liquid Hydrocarbons Marketing and Processing Department, Vitaly Yakovlev, Director General of Mosenergo and representatives from contracting companies who were present in the main control room.

CCGT-420 of CHPP-26 is a combined cycle gas turbine unit with the fourth generation gas turbine featuring high efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

CCGT-420 of CHPP-26 meets the specifications that make it the most up-to-date and efficient power unit in Russia. Reaching 59 per cent, its efficiency ratio is record high in the Russian power generation sector.

“This is a milestone event for Moscow and the Oblast. The new unit will generate power and heat both for the residents of Moscow and its satellite cities and towns. The power unit is specific with a combined cycle mode of heat and power generation, thus allowing authorities of Moscow and the Moscow Oblast to close inefficient boiler houses and switch the enterprises and the residential sector to heat and power supplies from CHPP-26. Thus, the region will be able to save a considerable amount of natural gas,” Alexey Miller noted.

Background

CCGT-420 of CHPP-26 is part of the Capacity Supply Agreement by Mosenergo. A consortium of Alstom (France) and EMAlliance is the general contractor providing turnkey construction services. The power unit is constructed on the basis of an AlstomKA26–1 combined cycle gas turbine unit comprised by a GT26 gas turbine, a recovery boiler and an STF30c steam turbine. The installed power and heat capacity of the unit is 420 MW and 265 Gcal/h respectively.

Natural gas is the main type of fuel.

Mosenergo is a leading Russian power generation company in terms of new generating capacities commissioning. The aggregate capacity of the power plants commissioned by Mosenergo between 2007 and 2008 is 1,325 MW – two CCGT-450 power units (No.3 and No.4) of CHPP-27 and CCGT-425 of CHPP-21.

Mosenergo is to commission two CCGT-420 units at CHPP-16 and CHPP-20 as well as a CCGT-220 unit at CHPP-12 between 2013 and 2014 under the Capacity Supply Agreements. Moreover, in 2012 it is scheduled to launch a prototype gas turbine unit (GTE-65) manufactured domestically by the Power Machines Company.

Mosenergo is the largest territorial generating company in Russia. As of December 31, 2010 (before commissioning of CCGT-420 at CHPP-26) the installed power and heat capacity was 11.9 thousand MW and 34.9 thousand Gcal/h respectively. The power stations owned by the company deliver over 60 per cent of the energy consumed in the Moscow region and satisfy some 70 per cent of the heat demand in Moscow. Gazprom energoholding (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom) holds a controlling stake in the company.
