On September 30th 2004, the traditional Regional workmanship competition among cable jointers and communication erectors and jointers of the enterprises of the Northwestern Federal District was held. The competition was held in St. Petersburg on the basis of the Training and Introduction Centre of Lentelefonstroy JSC.  The event has been organized by North-West Telecom JSC, Lentelefonstroy JSC and the St. Petersburg Centre of Elektrosvyazi.

21 participants have taken part in the competition – workers of the branches of North-West Telecom JSC, as well as representatives of Peterstar CJSC, Lensvyaz JSC and Lentelefonstroy JSC.

The participations of the competition were judged by the results of performing a practical and theoretic assignments that consisted of more than 70 questions on the production process and accident prevention.  

As a result of stubborn struggle, the prize positions were awarded to:

• Alexandr N. Lukin, the PTN branch of North-West Telecom JSC – 1st prize; 
• Alexandr L. Kobyak, the Murmanskelectrosvyaz branch of North-West Telecom JSC – 2nd prize; 
• Alexandr B. Kalinin, the Lensvyaz branch of North-West Telecom JSC – 3rd prize. 

The winners were awarded by diplomas, prize money and digital video and audio sets.

Besides, the sponsors of the competition - Neva-Kabel, Alstrim, Teletechno, ZM, Connect and Raichem – awarded special prizes:

• “For Persistence” – to Maxim A. Agapov – Lentelefonstroy;
• “For Courage” – to Alexey N. Mikheyev – the Electrosvyaz of Vologda region branch of NWT JSC – who worked with the new process for the first time;
• “For the best Coupling” – to Anatoly M. Odintsov – the Murmanelectrosvyaz branch of NWT JSC.

All the participants received certificates of a participant of the Regional workmanship competition among cable jointers and communication erectors and jointers of the communication enterprises of the RF Northwestern Federal District and souvenirs.  

The competition of cable jointers was held with the view of improving professional skills, developing creative activity, finding and distributing advanced techniques and methods of work, making the workers’ professions more prestigious and enhancing the motivation of the personnel of telecommunication companies.
