NLMK Group rolls out social assistance programme amid COVID-19 pandemic

NLMK Group, a global steel company, continues to offer support to local communities in the regions where it operates and to provide social assistance to current and former employees.

In coordination with city and regional authorities, NLMK Group has procured essential medical devices and personal protective equipment for hospitals in the regions where the Group operates:

·         36 stationary ventilators and 20 mobile ventilators for use in medical transport have been delivered (some will be delivered by the end of May) to hospitals in Lipetsk and Stary Oskol (Belgorod region). NLMK Group has also transferred funds for the purchase of an additional 11 stationary ventilators in the regions where it operates.

·         More than 200,000 facemasks and respirators, 11,000 protective suits, and other personal protective equipment have been supplied to medical facilities in Lipetsk, Yelets, and Gryazi (Lipetsk region), Stary Oskol and Belgorod (Belgorod region), Ekaterinburg and Nizhniye Sergi (Sverdlovsk region), Zarinsk (Altai region), and Kaluga.

In addition to providing assistance to medical facilities, NLMK Group has introduced a set of social support measures for its employees and the communities of the regions where the Group’s companies are located.

·         The Company has provided one-off financial support to more that 700 families of NLMK Group employees that have three or more children under the age of 18. Monetary aid will also be supplied to single parents and 200 families raising children with disabilities.

·         NLMK Group has allocated funds to provide food parcels to groups that are in need of support today in the cities where the Group operates, namely families with three or more children under the age of 18, families raising children with disabilities, and single parents. Around 15,000 parcels will be delivered to families in Lipetsk, Stary Oskol, and Zarinsk.      

To date, the overall funding that NLMK Group and its social partner, the Miloserdie Charitable Foundation, have provided to support the regions where the Company operates and to offer social assistance amounts to around RUB 450 million.

Mikhail Arkhipov, Vice President for HR and Management System, said:

“We continue our systematic support efforts aimed at overcoming specific challenges and providing targeted assistance. Of course, the first priority is assistance to medical facilities. The coronavirus pandemic has increased the strain on large families and other at-risk groups. They are the current focus of our social assistance efforts.”

Since the end of March, the company has allocated a total of RUB 1.25 billion to these initiatives, bringing the total that the company has earmarked to counter the COVID-19 pandemic and offer social support to its employees and local communities in regions where it operates to an estimated RUB 1.7 billion.
