September 24, 2004

Results of IGU working Committees meetings

Helsinki and Kopenhagen hosted meetings of the 3 Working (Gas Transmission, Gas Storage, Gas Exploration & Production) and 1 Programme (Sustainable Development) Committees of the International Gas Union (IGU).

Attending the meetings were representatives of Gazprom and its subsidiaries.

The Committees focused on preparations for the XXIII World Gas Congress (WGC) to be held in 2006 in Amsterdam and on the role of the gas industry in green-house gas mitigation.

Gazprom’s representatives presented to the Gas Transmission Committee the Report on higher reliability of gas transmission networks, that was highly evaluated by the meeting.

Next meetings of the IGU Gas Transmission, Underground Storage and Gas Distribution Working Committees are scheduled to take place, on Gazprom’s representatives’ initiative, in April 2005 in Moscow.

Reference:

Founded in 1931, the International Gas Union (IGU) is an international non-governmental organization representing a major center of the gas industry worldwide experience analysis and generalization. The IGU is mainly focused on organizing uninterrupted experience sharing, searching for new effective methods of work, developing advanced technical ideas and original technological solutions.

IGU currently unites gas associations and companies from 67 countries of the world. Russia became IGU member back in 1957, being represented in the organization by Gazprom.

The World Gas Congress (WGC) is the IGU’s most crucial forum. In June 2003, Tokyo hosted the XXII WGC.

Gazprom’s representatives are involved in the activities of the IGU 5 Working and 4 Programme Committees.

The Underground Gas Storage Committee (founded in 2000) is the only IGU committee being headed by a Russian representative in the course of preparations for the Amsterdam WGC. Responsible for the identification of underground gas storage development prospects and trends, the Committee is chaired by Sergey Khan, Head of Gazprom’s Underground Gas Storage Division.
