OJSC Rostelecom, Russia’s national long-distance telecommunications operator, participated in the round table session of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T), dedicated to 50 years of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T). Mr. Dmitry Erokhin, General Director of the Company, headed Rostelecom’s delegation.

Since 1999 and until to now Rostelecom has been an exclusive representative of the Russian Federation in ITU-T and one of the active participants of this global organization, bringing its intellectual contribution to creation of the world normative and technical database of Information and Communications technologies (ICT). Effective cooperation of the Russian communications enterprises and organizations with foreign partners is provided by Rostelecom representation office abroad located in Geneva, Switzerland.

At the final stage of the assembly, Mr. Zhao, director of the Standardization Bureau of ITU-T handed in to Dmitry Erokhin, General Director of Rostelecom, Certificate in Recognition of Substantial Contribution of Rostelecom to the activities of ITU-T.

In his report at the round table Dmitry Erokhin commented: «For many years participation in the activities of ITU-T has provided the Company with maximum effective implementation of the existing standards, an opportunity of direct influence on development of the international recommendations, effective application of results of work and knowledge of the best world experts in ICT sphere, as well as development and strengthening of partners’ relations».

In opinion of experts, from the very beginning of its practical activities as a full member of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector of the International Telecommunications Union, Rostelecom has been a reliable partner for multifacet activities of the Russian mission at the United Nations.

Within the celebrations of the ITU-T anniversary the Company management held bilateral meetings with telecom operators and equipment makers, including meetings with KDDI and ALKATEL.

The Russian delegation along with representatives of major foreign telecom carriers, such as Korea Telecom, Deutsche Telecom, Nortele, Alcatel and others took part in the work of the panel discussion "The Future of Telecommunications and ICT: Strategies, Management and Standards" that was held on the occasion of ITU-T anniversary.

The main subjects of the opinion exchange included specific features and prospects of the innovations of modern telecommunications market; problems of effective corporate management; peculiarities of the modern user of telecommunications services; the main tasks of modern telecommunications market and conditions of their implementation as well as many other vital matters.
