MMK sets two more records in its modern history

OJSC Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works ("MMK" or “the Company”) shipped a record amount of products to pipemakers and produced the largest amount of hot-rolled products in 2014 for the whole period of its modern history.

In 2014, MMK shipped over 2.78 mln tonnes of metal products to pipemakers, up 24.3% y-o-y. The Company’s share on the domestic market improved to 33.2% in 2014 from 29% a year before. MMK has continuously been among the leaders metal suppliers for the Russian pipe sector, including such companies as Chelyabinsk Pipe-Rolling Plant (ChelPipe), Volzhsky Pipe Plant and Seversky Tube Works (both part of TMK), Almetyevsk Pipe Plant (part of United Metallurgical Company), Urals Pipe Works (Uraltrubprom) and TEM-PO Naberezhnye Chelny Pipe Works. MMK is capable of producing complex steel grades used in pipe production, and has participated in a number of major domestic and international oil & gas projects, including the main pipelines Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok, Bovanenkovo-Ukhta, Central Asia-China, Southern Corridor, Beineu-Bozoi-Shymkent, Power of Siberia, as well as oil pipelines such as the Baltic Pipeline System-II and the Eastern Siberia–Pacific Ocean oil pipeline.

2014 also saw record production at MMK’s Mill 2000, which produced 5.93 mln tonnes of hot-rolled products - the largest amount since its launch in 1994. The hot-rolled products Mill 2000, which is one of the most impressive and state-of-art in Russia, produces a wide range of products for pipes, construction, shipbuilding production, as well as machinery manufacturing. In the mid-2000s, the Mill was largely modernised, and currently the installation of second phase of the Mill’s finishing group automatic process control system is being carried out. This will allow MMK to transition from the Mill’s semi-automatic control mode to a fully automatic system.

As earlier reported, in 2014 MMK produced 10.28 mln tonnes of cast iron in 2014, a record for the whole period of its modern history.
