Reference:

The Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area (YaNAA) is Gazprom’s major feedstock base. Over 2003, the Company produced in this region more than 500 bcm of natural gas – over 90% of Gazprom’s overall gas extraction.

The Yamal Peninsula has been identified as a promising gas production province meeting Gazprom’s strategic interests. Until now, 26 fields with 10.4 tcm of explored gas reserves have been discovered on the Peninsula. Gazprom owns licences to develop the Bovanenkovskoye, Kharasaveyskoye and Novoportovskoye fields with 5.8 tcm in overall gas reserves. Full-scale commercial development of these fields only will allow Gazprom to withdraw additional 180 bcm of gas per annum.

A total of 12.4 million tons of cargo is calculated to be needed for the technical development of the Bovanenkovskoye and Kharasaveyskoye fields.

At the 1st stage, before a railroad line towards the settlement of Bovanenkovo is built, cargoes will be delivered via the Northern Sea Route or by river. Next stages are planned to involve, in addition to water vehicles, the Obskaya-Bovanenkovo railway link with 267 km from the Obskaya station to the Khralov crossing point, 15 station sidings, 37 bridge crossings and 162 culverts already constructed.
