In August of 2004 MMK produced 887,100 tons of sinter (100.9% of the target figure), 500,700 tons of coke (100.8% of the target), 840,100 t of pig iron (100%), 970,500 t of steel (99%) and 896,100 of finished rolled products (99%). The output of commercial products totaled 880,700 tons, which represented 100.1% of the target for August. Overall, in the 8 months of the year the company produced 7.025 million t of sinter, 3.888 m tons of coke, 6.5421 m tons of pig iron, 7,5802 m t of crude steel, and 6.8871 m tons of finished rolled products. On the whole, production levels for the past period met the set targets, and were on a par with 2003. In terms of production quantities MMK remained in the lead in the country’s steel sector.

At present MMK has no plans of boosting production levels. In 2005-2006, however, with the commissioning of a new electric smelting with 2 EAF’s and new long products mills the company is expected to raise the steel smelting level by 2 million tons and to roll up to 12 million tons of finished rolled steel per year.
