Republic of Komi launches new 100 kV substation “Yemval”

Komienergo branch of IDGC of North-West, JSC allocated more than RUR 130 million for the implementation of the project.

On December 15, 100 kV “Yemval” substation was launched in the Republic of Komi. It will help to provide with power about 30 multi-storied houses, increase the reliability of power supply of the Ezhvinskiy district consumers and further develop business. Komienergo branch of IDGC of North-West, JSC allocated more than RUR 130 million for the implementation of the project.

“Irrespective of the crisis effects we read about in the mass media and to a certain extent observe in the region, the power engineers carry out the investment plan well and even exceed it which may fully characterize the retaliations between the power authorities and business representatives.  It will let us enter 2009 with confidence and cope up with possible difficulties,” said Vladimir Torlopov, the Head of the Komi Republic.

Ivan Medvedev, Director of Komienergo branch of IDGC of North-West, JSC; Roman Zenishchev, Mayor of the city of Syktyvkar; Konstantin Ramadanov the Head of the RC tariff service and Alexander Chistyakov, General Director of KomiGEM, JSC contracting organization visited substation “Yemval” opening ceremony.

“In China, the hieroglyph “crisis” has two meanings – “danger” and “new opportunities”. Substation “Yemval” launching presents new opportunities for the development of the Ezhvinskiy district and social issues solution,” noted Roman Zenishchev, Mayor of the city of Syktyvkar. “The substation capacity will help the Yemval micro-district development which was planned for the near 15 years.”

The decision on the construction of 100/10 kV “Yemval” substation with the overhead 110 kV transmission line was adopted due to the new consumers’ occurrence and the loads growth throughout the Ezhvinskiy district of Syktyvkar. The construction began in February of the current year. According to the project, two transformers of 20 MVA total capacity were set on the territory of the substation. Electrical and switching equipment was installed.

Alexander Chistyakov, General Director of KomiGEM, JSC noted that the technical policy of Komienergo directed to the promotion of home equipment is correct. – During the project implementation we used modern technologies such as SF6 circuit-breakers and polymeric insulation made in Russia. I would like to notice that the substation project itself was developed in our republic, said he.

Komienergo specialists follow the object construction with the help of “IP- camera”. The digital camera was connected to the local net of the company. It presented on-line all the things taking place at the construction site. The construction technology video was shown to the participants at the substation opening ceremony.

- One of the peculiarities of the power industry is that we should prepare ground for the economy development beforehand. The crisis is the temporary event preceding the following growth. And we should be ready for this, noted Komienergo Director.

Besides this, Ivan Medvedev mentioned that the power issues are very important for the authorities of the region. “The period of such a substation construction is 3 years. Due to close cooperation between the authorities of the Komi republic and the administration of Syktyvkar we spurred the project implementation and managed to build the substation within 1 year.”

“Yemval” substation construction is a part of the program directed to the power supply of new dwelling zones and industry development. For the previous two years Komienergo implemented several large-scale projects at a time. By means of transformers change the capacity of Yuzhnaya substation was increased up to 80 MVA. Vostochnaya substation maintenance and Vylgort substation construction was finished. These projects implementation will help to additionally provide with power 660 objects of housing and utilities infrastructure in the capital of the Republic and neighborhoods.
