A meeting of the Scientific and Technical Council (STC) of IDGC of Volga, JSC was held in Cheboksary on December 15-17. Meetings of the Company’s STC are regular. Their key goal is to define directions for implementing the unified technical policy of the Company, aimed at developing the electrical power network, improving its reliability, effectiveness, technical level and safety of electrical power equipment. The measures will allow to provide safe and reliable power transferred by modern highly efficient equipment. The STC helps solve important problems, such as optimizing new technologies, cooperating with electrical power machinery manufacturers, etc. The present, seventh session of the STC was dedicated to the topic of operating and maintaining relay protection and automation (RPA) equipment at energy sector enterprises. The participants discussed the topic of upgrading RPA schemes and applying state-of-the-art technologies, and exchanged their work experience. The participants mentioned several times during the meeting that relay protection and automation is an important sector in the power industry, as the devices help protect the power equipment from damage, destruction and non-typical performance. The participants noted that to protect the electrical power equipment on substations, new and reliable RPA equipment must be installed. Multifunctional digital devices (MP terminals) produced today combine not only the relay protection function but also controlling, signaling and measuring functions, and ties to automatic control systems (ACS) of electrical supply lines. One of the advantages offered by MP terminals lies in the oscillographic representation of malfunctioning processes, and registration of alarm signals. These functions help analyze the performance of protection equipment, and simplify the task of finding the damaged section. Chuvashenergo Branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC has extensive experience in introducing new technologies. One of the most recent examples of using modern electrical equipment is the Novyi Gorod substation. The first stage of this project was completed and launched last November. The new equipment at this substation includes RPA devices made in the Chuvash Republic. Sergey Astafyev, director for Technical Development and Maintenance of IDGC of Volga, JSC, says that meetings of the Scientific and Technical Council of IDGC of Volga, JSC serve an essential link in the important work being done to assure better quality and reliability of power supply networks serving consumers in all the regions within the jurisdiction of the IDGC of Volga, JSC. Following the meeting, the STC will formulate practical suggestions and recommendations on improving effectiveness and reliability of electrical equipment in all the branches of the Company.
