COMSTAR-UTS makes WiMAX more affordable

July 1, 2009, Moscow. COMSTAR – United TeleSystems (JSC COMSTAR-UTS, LSE: CMST), the leading supplier of integrated telecommunication solutions in Russia and the CIS, revised tariff plans for the wireless broadband Internet access service based on mobile WiMAX technology starting July 1, making it more attractive and affordable for users while substantially cutting the price of modem for its subscribers.

Cost of 1 Mb of traffic exceeding the monthly package now ranges from 0.15 rubles to 0.50 rubles depending on the tariff plan. Before July 1 it ranged from 0.50 rubles to 3 rubles. For S tariff plan with no subscription fee, cost of 1 Mb of traffic will be 0.50 rubles per each Mb instead of 3 rubles. These new rates also apply to current subscribers.

Besides, starting July 1, COMSTAR-UTS cut the price of WiMAX modems for new subscribers. Now all users willing to get access to mobile WiMAX services are able to buy a WiMAX package (box product comprising USB WiMAX COMSTAR 2501 modem, setup disk and connection instructions) for 1,990 rubles when subscribing to any existing tariff plan. Earlier, the price of said equipment was 4,600 rubles.

For those subscribed before June 30, 2009 COMSTAR-UTS increased 5-fold the traffic volume covered by subscription fee. Special offer remains effective for six months, up to end of 2009.

On May 1, 2009 COMSTAR-UTS launched wireless broadband Internet access service for commercial operation. This service was positioned as a mass service in the market from the very start, that is why we keep on making it more attractive and user-friendly for our users, - Alexander Gorbunov, OAO COMSTAR-UTS Vice President for Strategy and Development.
